iSmart Shankar (2019) Movie Review

Puri Jagannadh 's goal with iSmart Shankar is to introduce the story of a flawed, apparently heartless thief, who happens to fall for the one girl who won't put up with his nonsense. But what happens when the murderer found out that he was not only paying to murder someone but actually used as a pawn in something even more sinister?

One expects the film to be fast-paced and perhaps remotely logical with a plot such as this. But you do get anything but that with iSmart Shankar. Shankar (Ram Pothineni) is a thief who doesn't shy away from the enemy formation. He mouths dialogs annoyingly when offsetting his rivals, and is orange-bronzed.

His dual-tone denim and gaudy shirts find a civilian engineer named Chandini (Nabha Natesh), someone who is not scared of him and his nonsense. But she finally falls to him, of course, even though his favorite pastime is to frustrate her terribly. On the other hand, there is CBI agent Anand (Satya Dev) who works on the murder case of Shankar and his girlfriend Sarah (Nidhhi Agerwal), a neuroscientist whose invention is crucial to this story.

There's also a mystery story Shankar will reveal that's so predictable, it's funny how you can feel a mile away from the end. The problem with iSmart Shankar is (surprisingly) not that this tale 's narrator is such an awkward and unlikeable character that he assumes that intimidating women with violence and manipulating their bodies is what makes them fall to him.

And Puri would have us believe that it works, even though he never pretends that Shankar should be likable. He even explains why Shankar might be the way he's in a throwaway dialog but never takes away the discomfort. The film's bane is its central aspect, though, which allows you both to stay committed and needs you to suspend disbelief.

Yet even in this make-believe universe, it's hard to give a damn as rules change by the minute. And make it worse, one 's long, boring trip and figure out what you've always expected doesn't make things any easier.

However, Ram Pothineni gives Shankar his all, bringing in some sort of energy that makes it a pleasure to watch him on-screen, even on his most disgusting self. Especially when the film demands him to show massive dance steps in incredibly ill-placed tracks, he comes through. He's also breezing through the very few emotional scenes in the movie and the many comics.

The character of Satya Dev never gets much of a chance to flesh out, remaining a caricature of what an agent should be like. Shame, that he can behave well! The characters of Nabha Natesh and Nidhhi Agerwal to suffer from a similar syndrome where, despite much being made up of their occupations, they serve only the function of being the ultimate misogynistic male-fantasy.

However, with what she's offered, Nabha delivers serious performance. Nidhhi is clearly fine. iSmart Shankar is a boisterous, cluttered, and pakka mass movie that doesn't take off. Although successful music by Mani Sharma and BGM (literally) adds to the chaos, it doesn't do anything to support the film.

If you're a Puri, Ram or Nabha fan, give this one a chance this weekend, you might find the patience needed. If you are looking for something remotely logical, do not hesitate to miss this one.
