Merely deciding Jersey just the story of an ex-cricketer Arjun (Nani) who is fighting conventions to get selected in the Indian cricket team is a serious injustice to the movie, even though that's how it sums up. It's also the romantic story of his life, where Sarah (Shraddha Srinath), who is struggling to remain in love with the man he has become.
It's the saga of assistant coach Murthy (Sathyaraj) who stays through thick and thin with an orphan, even at his most insane peak, dreaming that one day he will be able to help him fulfill his dream. But, most significantly, it's a father's tale who is so enamored with his son Nani (Ronit Kamra) that he'd do anything to keep his eyes low and get him the birthday present that he'd always wanted.
Given the numerous threads and three separate time periods interacting with Arjun, Gowtam Tinnanuri does a good job of not tangling them all up into a mess. Arjun is an ex-Ranji player, his time 's best right-hand batsman, and a cocky man who, alas, is soon grounded in reality. Sarah is the love of his life who marries him against the wishes of her family, and now continues to stay in love with his shell.
Once in love couples now seem continuously start fighting, but the ray of light in their lives is their son Nani (Ronit Kamra), whose story is otherwise heavy with refreshing innocence. And then there is assistant coach Murthy who is driving Arjun to improve his potential, even though he fails to do so. Jersey is a nicely told tale that sees Nani delivering the best show of his career elegantly.
If he's good as the mouthy batsman who knows he's talented, he's doubly good as the man who's been constantly beaten by life but refuses to surrender. The actor learned and played cricket while filming for the film and it reflects with ease in the scenes where he picks up the body language of the cricketers. Nani actually ceases to exist for a while in the film and it's just Arjun cricketer you see, someone who's as relaxed on the field as he's in his living room on the sofa.
Especially in key scenes that allow him to emote without saying a word, the knowledge of how well he did shines through. Although Nani also shines through scenes asking him to play cricket, the scenes that capture your heart are the ones between him and his family. As the seven-year-old son who sees his father as nothing less than a superhero, Ronit Kamra nails his work. The scenes between them radiate not only love but also understated humor that keeps the film from being too serious.
Shraddha Srinath makes an impressive Telugu debut as a woman who is in love with her husband head-over-heels, but still isn't someone who will agree to put up with his carelessness. Via his role Sathyaraj breezes as Arjun 's constant backbone requires. Although Gowtam Tinnanuri takes the cake in this one, with his stupendous script and storytelling, the cinematography of Sanu Varghese and the music of Anirudh Ravichander do their best to literally spill energy into the movie.

See this one this weekend if you're an avid cricket fan then during the sports scenes you'll be perched on the edge of your seat. Look at this one for Nani and the rest of the cast, who will make you fall in love with their characters as long as the end curtain rises.
